I cant possibly be the only person suprised at the Giants/Padres
5-12…
As of this second thats the record the Giants have against the Padres this year.
5-12
And yet, people are acting shocked that the Giants havent been able to put the Padres away this weekend. Gee, I wonder why?
Remember when San Diego lost 10 strait and blew that huge lead in the west?
Beating the snot out of San Francisco got them that lead, and they sure as hell didn play the Giants during that 10 game skid-they played Philly, Arizona and Colorado.
Hell, if the Padres were put in a “you must sweep” situation, theyd sure as hell would want to face the Giants, because theyre the only team where you know they can at least take the 1st two because theyre not being pitched by a man named “Lincecum”
…and man, the Braves sure do suck for not being able to clinch the wild card in the meantime.
No offence to the Giants but….well c’mon, the numbers speak for themselves: 5-12, that just says that the Padres can really only beat YOU.
Meanwhile, Joe Buck and Fox means I cant make myself watch todays Yankee game without the mute on….but the big story here is: Who wants to win the AL east???
Tampa Bay sucks…the Rangers suck…the Twins suck….
…and the Yankees havent been playing well either…
So the AL side of the playoffs are gonna be interesting because nobody is playing worth a damn. Hell, with the injuries to Longoria, Hamilton and whatever the Twins guy is (I cant be bothered to care who plays for the Twins anymore) its gonna be like going to a huge broadway production only to find that the understudies are performing.
The Yankees rotation looks good (ie: the all star trio) but for some reason people keep talking about Burnett possibly starting a game in October. Its baffling because AJ has been a large dose of SUCK this month. Im gonna cringe for the night cap of this double header too because hes starting……..which brings me to my next issue tonight…
What dumbfukk thought it was a good idea to start a Yankees-Red Sox doubleheader at 4 o’clock? Yankees/Red Sox games are easily the longest games in all of baseball, almost as long as a typical football game…and yet, why not start it at 1? Ya know, lets get this started early so that we can all go home before 3am!!! But no, apparently FOX wanted to keep it their game of the week or something.
Hell, I got an idea: lets play a triple header. Why not, by the time the 2nd game ends, itll prolly be 1:30 the next day, which just so happens to be the start time for tomorrows game.
….as for the whole wild card/division title thing, Im between a rock and a hard place for that. I hate the wild card, but then we face the Twins (who happen to be our b!tches in October) while the division winner faces Cliff Lee (aka the only reason the Phillies won at all in the world series last year)
The Red Sox must be facing a similar dilemma right now. Beat us up and let us roll over Minnesota next week…or roll over to us and make us deal with Lee?
Either way the Yankees are playing next week and the Red Sox arent, so I guess its a moot point…
Week 25 in review: Literal walk off; Cano for MVP
So yeah, one of the biggest games of the year and the Yankees win it in walk off fashion as Juan Miranda draws the bases loaded walk. Much love to ARod with the big 2 run jack earlier in the game and Cano for the cluth game tying hit in the bottom of the 9th.
The Red Sox are done, see you b!tches next year.
MEANWHILE!
So, the AL MVP is apparently down to 3 men: Miguel Cabrera, Josh Hamilton and Robbie Cano.
Now…Hamilton hasnt been playing this month (ya know, the most important month of the regular season) so despite his numbers, NO.
Miguel Cabrera has sucked this month, and his team is out, so Miguel should be out as well.
Cano has the good numbers, stepped up big when ARod was hurt last month and is leading the Yankees to the playoffs.

Week 24 in review: Standby for mayday
A 3-3 week aint something to write home about, but the Yankees’ll take it, especially if it keeps them in 1st, These backs-against-the-wall comebacks need to stop, cuz theyre doing damage to my heart.
BTW: A-Rods homerun against Baltimore was 100% legit. Check the replays and even Joe Buck will admit that even though it was close, it was clearly too far inside to be a strike. Cry me a river, it was ball 2.
…oh, and Andy Pettittes back, and looking as sharp as ever.

Week 22 in review: Good-bye, Boston
How far back are they? 10 games? Can they really win 10 more games than the Yankees this month? No, no they cant. But once again they face the Rays in a series, meaning either they win and climb closer in the standings, or the Rays win and continue to breathe down out encks so Im not sure who to root for.

F*cking Lozers:
Semi-finals: (2) F*cking Lozers vs the 6 seed.
I’m hoping to ride the hot streaks of Marcus Thames and Wandy Rodriguez and hoping Tim Lincecums last start is the sign that hes finally returning to his former glory.
The other guy pulled off a 8-5 upset over the 3 seed and has an equally impressive lineup that includes Joey Votto and Sabathia.
The only lock of a statistic is stolen bases in my favor what with Juan Pierre, Michael Bourn and Brett Gardner patroling my outfield.
Will I finally advance to the finals this year, or will it be 3 strait years of semi-failure?
Next Week:
Baltimore and Texas. Theres no reason for us to not be in 1st after playing these two…
Initiate the countdown!
Well look at what month it is! Time to start thinking of magic numbers and playoff scenarios! Lets take a look at who is mathmaticly left in each division race…
AL bEAST
New York Yankees
Tampa Bay Rays (1.5 out)
Boston Red Sox (8.5 out)
Toronto Blue Jays (15 out)
Currently, Torontos elimination number (13) is smaller than their games back (15) and unless the east bacomes the AL Central, then the Jays are out of the playoffs. The Yankees currently hold onto the small lead after setting a record with the Rays for longest time tied for 1st, so those 2 are expected to come away with the east and wild card, leaving Boston in a hopless situation. But where the BoSox fall short in talent and brains, they more than make up for in desire, so they wont go anywhere. Dont expect that season finale against the Yankees to mean anything though except for a chance to play spoilers.
Meanwhile, the Orioles can take solace in the fact that thanks to Buck Showalter, they are no longer anywhere near the Mets all time single season loss record.
AL CENTRAL
Minnesota Twins
Chicago White Sox (4 out)
Detroit Tigers (12 out)
Kansas city Royals (21 out)
Cleveland Indians (24 out)
It seems that a 1 game playoff is expected out of this division this year thanks to the last few years. Will it feature a rematch of 2008 (CWS vs MIN), or of 2009 (MIN vs DET) or a new matchup (CWS vs DET). $5 says Detroit would win that game, if only to give this all a rock/paper/scissors vibe to it.
Realistically speaking, the tigers are a mile behind, the White Sox are recharged thanks to Manny (not his bat, just Manny being there). Is it Minnesotas turn to choke with the lead this year? anything is possible with this division!
Elsewhere, the Royals can sure get used to this whole “not finishing last” thing. Remember Royals fans: once upon a time the Devil Rays were thanking God that they finished as high as 4th, then they found out how to win and won the division eventually.
AL WEST
Texas Rangers
Oakland Athletics (10 out)
California Los Angeles Anaheim Angels of Anaheim (10.5 out)
Seattle Mariners (23 out)
Yeah…Texas is winning this time. If youre in a division where the 2nd place team is under .500, how can you NOT win?
AL WILD CARD
Tampa Bay Rays
Boston Red Sox (7 out)
Chicago White Sox (9 out)
Toronto Blue Jays (13 out)
Detroit Tigers/Oakland A’s (17 out)
California Los Angeles Anaheim Angels of Anaheim (17.5 out)
Kansas City Royals (26 out)
Cleveland Indians (29 out)
Lets rename the AL WC into the AL East+White Sox cuz thats all it really is. Hell, all non east teams are there to show just how dominating the division is cuz all those teams are closer to their own division leader then they are to the 2nd place team in the east. Heck, the 3rd place east team (Boston) would be tied with the Rangers for the west!
NL EAST
Atlanta Braves
Philadelphia Phillies (3 out)
Florida Marlins (10.5 out)
New York Mets (13 out)
Washington Nationals (21.5 out)
Man, the Phillies sure long for the days when all they had to do was catch the Mets in this division. Now they have to topple a legit team in order to steal away this division. Such is the life…
Also, if the Braves win the division this year. Expect Chipper Jones next year to announce that he’ll retire at the end of the year so that the team might get inspired to win like they did this year for Cox.
NL CENTRAL
Cincinnati Reds
St. Louis Cardinals (8 out)
Houston Astros/Milwaukee Brewers (16 out)
Chicago Cubs (21.5 out)
“Where the f*ck did these guys come from?” is probably what every Cardinals player and fan has been saying under their breath for the last few months. Reds have been doing great before Chapman came up, so imagine how good theyll do now. Seriously, imagine 2007 Yankees when Joba first came in throwing pure fire. yeah, division champs!
NL WEST
San Diego Padres
San Francisco Giants (3 out)
Colorado Rockies (7 out)
Los Angeles Dodgers (9 out)
Arizona Diamondbacks (22 out)
Padres are just thankful they they had such a big lead. This insane losing streak of theirs cost them a lot, but so far theyre still #1 in the west. Its given the rest of the division hope though.
NL WILD CARD
Philadelphia Phillies
San Francisco Giants (1.5 back)
St. Louis Cardinals (5 out)
Colorado Rockies (5.5 out)
Florida Marlins/LA Dodgers (7.5 out)
New York Mets (10 out)
Hoston Astros/Milwaukee Brewers (13 out)
Chicago Cubs/DC Nationals (18.5 out)
Arizona Diamondbacks (20.5 out)
See what happens when there isnt an AL east type division? This could go to anyone. 6 teams within 10 games. Hell, theres 4 teams within 6 games compared to the 0 teams within 6 games in the AL WC.
Just how important is home field advantage?
Really, really, important.
For my stats, I’m gonna go back as far as 1995, since that was the 1st season with the current east-central-west division format, which Ill get into later.
In the last 15 seasons, the team that holds home field advantage in the world series has a 20-10 record in those all important games 1 and 2…11 of those lucky teams have gone on to win the world series (The 99 Braves, 03 Yankees, 06 Tigers and 08 Rays are the only teams to lose the series despite having home field advantage)
-7 home teams have won both games (95 Braves, 98 and 00 Yankees, 01 D-Backs, 04 and 07 Red Sox and 05 White Sox) and all of them have gone on to win the whole thing
-No road team has won the world series after losing games 1 and 2
-Only 2 teams have lost both games at home (96 Yankees and 99 Braves) but only the 96 Yankees were able to still win the series.
-The 99 Yankees are the only team that swept the world series despite not having home field advantage.
The true advantage of having home field is in the travel, or lack there of. Travel fatigue could beat the opposing team before the first pitch is even thrown. This is a major factor only when the visiting team hails from a different division. The last couple seasons have seen east vs east, but when its east vs west, or central vs anyone else, whoever holds homefield advantage will have a major advantage.
In the last 15 seasons, there have been only 6 world series machups between teams from different geographical divisions. Whoever had home field advantage won EVERY SERIES.
-95 Braves (east) def Indians (central)
-97 Marlins (east) def Indians (central)
-98 Yankees (east) def Padres (west)
-01 D-Backs (west) def Yankees (east)
-04 Red Sox (east) def Cardinals (central)
-07 Red Sox (east) def Rockies (west)
-Of the previous 6 series mentiones, the home team went 11-1, the 97 Marlins had the only loss. Overall, the 6 teams combined for a 24-8 record for the entire series.
So, the National Leagues win this week in the all star game could go far in ensuring victory for their pennent winner. Keep that in mind in case you make any bets come October.
Everythings returning to normal
Thank God thats over. Newspapers can now stop reporting about these things…
1st up-Yankees are 2.5 games up in 1st place and are slowly pulling away. Thanks to an extra innning win over the D-Backs, which involved Mo getting into trouble in the 10th. Bases loaded, 0 outs and another fluke bloop single would have the D-Backs walking off against Mo (again) but Rivera held his own this time, not allowing a run and the Yankees held on for the win. Anyway…
Rays amazing start? NOT ANYMORE!
Ubaldo Jimenez breaking a record? NOT ANYMORE!
Red Sox gonna “make a comeback” and take over 1st? NOT ANYMORE!
Blue Jays unlikely start? NOT QUITE OVER YET!
Longoria is in a slump and without him, the Rays fall to pieces. So without Longoria, the Rays have been naturally transforming back into the Devil Rays and the Yankees have capitalized. The BoSox have capitalized too since now theyre in a tie for 2nd.
Speaking of Boston. Seems like they cant quite keep the pace up. While the Yankees are avenging 2001 on Arizona, the Rockies have been avenging 2007 against Boston. So Boston came as close as 1 game out of 1st, but now that the Yankees are in charge of the division, thats gonna be as close as theyll get.
And oh baby, Jason Giambi hitting the walk off homer against the Red Sox is the most beautiful thing Ive heard all day.
…and it figures Ubaldo Jimenez would dominate everyone he faced until he ran into an AL east team. Now hes only human. The best human still, but still human.
…and I couldnt help but notice that Toronto has been falling off the pace a little. Theyre still over .500, but the losses are catching up to the wins…
Theres something in the water!
Seriously? How many no-nos have been attampted in the last 2 weeks alone? Near misses by the Yankees, Blue Jays and Mariners, while the Rockies cashed one in….and now? Yankees try again, this time Phil Hughes was trying for it but fell 6 outs shy thanks to a comebacker that bounced off him and he lost track of it for a bit too long.
Anyway, Hughes has been nothing short of PURE NASTY as hes struck out a career high of 10. I guess with the no-no in his rear view, Rivera will get the 9th.
Elsewhere, the Red Sox beat the Rangers with another walk off. Now, average people would mistake this as the Red Sox turning things around but remember-theyre barely beating the Texas Rangers, a team the Yankees swept with no problem. Imagine if they actually played a team that isnt slumping. Dont read too much into Bostons recent fortune.
I wanna address Bostons ISSUES for a moment. “Pitching and defense” is their rally cry this year, but offense is there too.
-make no mistake, their hitting has taken a big step back from recent years, but its still better than most AL teams.
-But their pitching? 7 earned runs tonight. 6 last night. This is against Texas. Their pitching has been atrocious. You cant do the comeback/walk off thing all year. Unless their “Superior rotation” remembers how to win, the Rays and Blue Jays will gladly step in front of them in the standings.
-Their D? Last night they surrendered 9 stolen bases. 3 more tonight. 12 in 2 games against the Rangers? Varitek cant throw out a runner to save his life. Added to the fact that theyve made some pretty bad errors this year at the worst possible times…
-And then comes the injuries. Cameron and Ellsbury? Not good to lose.
Bostons 5-9 so far…..1-6 against the ankees and Rays…Their only series win was against the Royals…and the Rangers too I realize.
Its early, plus they now get the punching bag that is Baltimore for a couple series, so they might straighten themselves out again until they run into LA and NY. Theyve also got the hot start Jays a couple times…
…I really didnt mean to make this such a Red Sox post. Enjoy it, cuz it might be the only time I do this without swearing or questioning the sexual orientation of their fans…
Predict THIS
Whos goin to the playoffs? Lets find out…
AL east
Winner: New York Yankees
(if you expected any other team here, get off my blog)
Almost doesnt count: Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Praying to God for division realignment: Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays
Lets see here…defending WORLD CHAMPIONS, They found a way to add pitching rotation depth to a trio that won that WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, and their bats are as potent as they were last year.
Boston has added defense, sure, but the glory days of Beltre and Cameron are LONG behind them (“Offensively useless, they are.” -Yoda) and Ortiz is on the decline, if you dont believe me, then youre in denile.
True, Tampa Bay caught everyone with their pants down in 2008. But now that we’re aware of it, it wont happen again. Yeah, sure, Longoria can go to to toe with ARod. But theres no one else in their lineup that can match NY. Maybe Boston. But TB lacks the resources that NY and Boston have to make any deadline deal they need…
AL central
Winner: Chicago White Sox
Another one game playoff? God no!: Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers
Not happening: Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals
Jake Peavy + Mr Perfect + my favorite Manager / the weakest division in baseball* = No problem.
Twinkies were a long shot before losing Nathan, while the Tigers need to prove that they can play in September before I give them a vote of confidence for October…
Kansas City will probably be the basement team in the AL, leaving Greinke to count the days until his free agency…
AL west
Winner: Seattle Mariners
We cant win this tiny @S$ division?: Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics
Who the hell are we again?: California Anaheim Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Mariners made all the right moves this winter, and even if that aging *** is on the downhill run, hes still pretty good.
Oakland wont win, I dunno why some people think they will…
Angels are ready to do a 180. I cant wait to see how bad.
NL east
Winner: Philadelphia Phillies
Its like the Yankees moved to Philly: Atlanta Braves, Florida Marlins
We dont know how, but we’ll find a way to screw up: New York Mets, Washington Natitnals Nationals
Ive been watching a lot of “Its always sunny in Philadelphia” so not only do I now know how to spell Philadelphia without worry, but now I wanna go there just to find a Paddys Pub.
Theres no other team in this division that can touch them, btw…
NLcentral
Winner: St Louis Cardinals
Close but no cigar: Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs
They resigned Holliday? F**K!: Houston astros, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers
Right…2 Cy Young caliber starters, Pujols, resigning Holliday? Its over.
Cincinnati has made strides to contend in the future, but no this year.
The cubbies are going in the wrong direction, slowly, but will still be better than most teams in this division.
NL west
Winner: San Francisco Giants
Seriously?: Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies
Yeah, seriously: San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks
Theyve got the pitching, and now the Giants have a better offense. Why not?
Colorado and LA will have their early and late season chokes that will cost them this year.
AL wild card
Winner: Boston Red Sox
Juuuuust a bit outside: Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers
The Yankee wannabes will have no problem winning yet another 2nd place award.
If the Tigers find a way to beat Chicago though, the Sox and Sox might battle for the wild card, and if thats the case, this might be a white wash.
NL wild card
Winner: Los Angeles Dodgers
Lucy, youve got some splainin to do!: Atlanta Braves
This will be a battle. They both have pitching, but LA has some constistency there and on offense.
“Hell-A, L-A, Hell-Hell-A, L-A” (guess the lyric, win a cookie)
…Hey, 100 posts, go me!
*: I really dont care if my comment offended you if youre a AL central fan. The AL central sucks and until they actually beat some non division opponents, Ill stand by that statement.
2009 ALDS vs Twins…Game 3
Our Mr. Game 2 (pitching in game 3) squares off against a man who pitched more in this year than he did in his 4 years as a Yankee.
The Yankees look to ride Pettitte to a 3 game sweep of the Twinkies, who look to Pavano to extend their dream one more night.
Meanwhile the dream is over for the Red sox, getting swept out the door by the Angels…and I’m dreaming of a white October where the Rockies and Phillies look to finally get some baseball played.
I miss anything? Good. Lets play ball!
End of 1 in Minnesota
1-2-3 on both sides….the last baseball game at the Metrodome?
Middle of 2 in Minnesota
I think Pavano now has more 1-2-3 innings in this game than he did in his entire Yankee career
Top 5 in Minnesota
Matsui with the 1st ball hit out of the infield! Man that took a while…
Top 7 in Minnesota
A Rod is the sh!t…making up for past October failures? Game ties at 1!
…JORGEEEEEEEEEEEEEee Posada!!!!!!! Yankees 2, Twins 1!
9 outs to go!!!
Bottom 7 in Minnesota
Pettitte strikes out his 7th, and his night is over. Great outing!
8 outs to go!
Time for the best looking bullpen to take over…starting with JOBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
End of 7 in Minnesota
6 outs to go!
Bottom 8 in Minnesota
Enter Sandman…vs Mauer. CLUTCH!
4 outs to go…
End of 8 in Minnesota
And Rivera breaks another bat as Mauer looks foolish in his inning ending groundout…3 outs to go!
Middle 9 in Minnesota
If I learned ANYTHING from Boston today, its 2 runs are never enough insurance…Yankees lead 4-1, with 3 outs to get for the sweep!
Bottom 9 in Minnesota
Get those brooms ready…
Yankees win!!!!
Angels, here we come!
