Karma starts paying Jeter back for the 06 and 09 MVPs he was denied

The AL Gold Glove awards were announced….a lot of expected picks (Mark Buehrle had his won on opening day) while the one interesting exception was Franklin Gutierrez-and I dont mean that in a bad way. Props to Jeter, Tex and Cano for winning by the way…
Meanwhile, everyone and their mother got their panties in a bunch when Jeter was announced as the winner at SS.
Im sorry, what? Jeter didnt deserve it? Cuz Im DAMN SURE he derserved an MVP in either 2006 and/or 2009, so please refrain from b!tching that he won a gold glove, cuz if there were any more deserving winners, than this wouldnt be an issue.
-Besides, remember the 1999 gold gloves?
Raphael Palmeiro beat out Tino Martinez despite Palmeiro only playing 28 games at 1st? He also won the silver slugger that year at DH. How do you win 2 awards for 2 entirely different positions? Simple, have the other guy be a Yankee.
A Yankee lucking out in a controversial call is apparently unacceptable, but the other way around is all right? whatever.
Congrats to Derek Jeter on winning yet another Gold Glove.
All you Jeter haters wanna believe hes washed up so bad that youre literally blind to anything good he does.

Other news Ive been ignoring:

HOL SH!T!!!!! Miller and Morgan are GONE!!! ESPN just became somewhat watchable, people! The same duo that have made Sunday Night Baseball unwatchable for the last couple decades are gone and right now I dont care whos replacing them.

Those two ranked up as #s 3 and 4 on the top Yankee-haters in announcing and I couldnt be happier to not have to listen to them on TV anymore. Not only that, II can also play future MLB2K games now that those two wont be announcing those either. Oh happy day!

Now if the Buck/McCarver duo could go away forever…

A lot of people have voiced disgust over the Indians decision to change the road unis…not because of the intentional retro look, but because theyre still including chief wahoo. Personally, Ive grown so accustomed to seeing that arm patch, that Id be annoyed if the Indians didnt have it anymore.

George Steinbrenner on the HoF ballot? Does he deserve it?
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH! Yes, yes he does, if only on the merit that he is THE most recognizable owner in the history of baseball. Say his name to any baseball fan and he’ll be known. Hell, most non baseball followers know who he is.
If that aint enough, then ya know, all those world championships and pennants should do the trick.

2010 ALCS vs Rangers…Game 5

Life boats are filling fast in NY. Teixeira is out for the year…and the way things are going, that might be for about 1 more day.

Burnett ptched last night and did what many of us thought: prepare the white flag….actually, Girardi prepared the white flag simply by pitching Burnett, then did his usual bullpen dance and allowed a tsunami of runs to score after Wild Thing left.

So now weve got CC Sabathia pitching for us with our backs against the wall…the last time we were this close to elimination, we managed to prolong our existence by 1 day against Cleveland in 2007…we were never even close to elimination in our 09 championship run…

But Sabathia isnt a stranger to these types of games. He dealt with that kind of pressure every start (on short rest no less) during his breif stint in Milwaukee, Weve got a bit of a bonus of having him on regular rest…so yeah…

but even if we were to win today and force this thing back to Texas, we still need to never lose again, which means we’d potentially have to deal with a certain someone in game 7…

Speaking of the 07 playoffs, after dispatching the Yankees, the Indians went on to blow a 3-1 ALCS lead…so its not over till its over Texas…

Week 12 in review: There should be a dozen Yankees in Anaheim

So Ive got about 12 more online votes to submit for the all star game, and the Yankees have about 12 players deserving of roster spots. Which players deserve it?
Andy Pettitte should be starting the game.
Phil Hughes and CC Sabathia should join Mo Rivera in the bullpen.
Jeter and Cano should win their respective positions.
Mark Teixeira might get a nod. If he doesnt win the vote, then as a 3rd 1st baseman.
Yes, Cervelli. He wont win the vote at catcher, but theres no other deserving catcher in the AL once Mauers off the table.
Longoria’ll win at 3rd….but then theres ARod. Why? Because its Girardis call.
Swishers gotta make the bench for the squad.

Including Girardi that would make….11…….well, factor in a bench coach and that makes 12.

Biggest Yankee Game:
6/27/10: Yankees-8, Dodgers-6, 10 Innings

Come-back-baby! Series-win! Future starting all star Robinson Cano won it with the homer! Way to end 2010 interleague play.

All my MLB.com teams lost close games. Its really annoying when your teams all do decent and its all for nothing…

Yankee-Hating Retard of the day: Cecilio’s Scribe

I’d figure since I brouse through other sports blogs from time to time, and since 90% are anti-Yankees, then I can highlight a couple from time to time and point out why theyre wrong.

Kicking this thing off: Cecilio’s Scribe
Now heres a winner. This post is what qualifies them for a stoning. Hes complaining about our 24 year old backup catcher, Francisco Cervelli because of the way he celebrates.

He starts out by showing off his Mets heritage and talks about rooting for a team that will never escape the shadow of the Yankees. All legit and true.
They almost get out of the 1st paragraph without sounding like a dumb*ss, but they closed it by calling Paul O’Neill dislikable and whiney. That was a fatal error.
Calling the Ultimate Warrior annoying and dislikable? Are you serious? Did you not watch game 5 of the 01 World Series? The whole f*cking stadium was giving him an ovation and chanting his name. That kind of respect will never grace the ears of ARod, Tex or Sabathia.
If the Mets had a player like O’Neill, they mightve actually made a couple more world series appearences.

Anyway, this guy only touched on O’Neill. His true target was out backup catcher: Cervelli.

Hes apparently someone you “Love to hate” which to me is odd, since putting on a Yankees uniform tends to be enough for most haters to “love to hate” you…

The reasons are clear for anyone who’s watched this 24 year-old kid play. He’s over-exuberant, cocky, theatrical and antagonistic. No matter if it’s the fourth inning of a game they’re losing, the seventh inning of a blowout win or the top of the first, Francisco is fist-pumping and primal screaming on every inning-ending strikeout. If he throws someone out at second? Well, then be prepared for an even more enthusiastic celebration. The Terminator has eliminated you, Mr. Baserunner, and he will now show you up in his home plate mini-dance, fist-pump, animal roar routine”

So…having fun out there is bad?
Ive always figured its a crime if you dont celebrate on the field. I mean seriously, lemme put this into perspective.

Of all the young boys, only a certain amount will play baseball well in school.
Fewer will go on to play college baseball.
Fewer than that will actually be drafted.
Fewer than that will make it into AAA.
And a select few will even make it into the big league and last.
Those are some pretty steep odds to overcome if you even wanna make it. So for the select few who can overcome the odds and not only make it, but stand out as the best at what you do, then no one should blame you for celebrating when you make a big play.

And why shouldnt he celebrate? Cervelli is the best defensive catcher since Ivan Rodriguez c.1998. Hes as good at his position as Strasburg is at pitching.

Ive been sold on this kid being good since I saw him play in the last WBC, and even more so when I met him in person while he was AAA. After that, the rest of baseball was sold last year when he came in for both Posada and Molina when they were injured and handled himself just fine.
Hell just last week the kid gunned down a potential base stealer at 2nd. He gunned the ball FROM HIS KNEES and still caught the runner.

Why not celebrate? Its a game. Remember that.
If I were paid millions of dollars a year to throw a ball around, I’d be as happy as a freakin clown. Even if I were on the Orioles, I’d be happy because my job is to play a game all year.

I didnt have an issue when Jose Reyes did his retarded little leg kick while turning a double-play against us last weekend. I thought Joba was 100% justified in all his fist pumps. There is nothing wrong with celebrating, unless youre strait up trying to belittle the other guy (see: 2003 ALDS Derek Lowe)

If you read their post, youve probably already realized that the whole thing was manifested by a Met fans jelousy for the Yankees. Our backup catcher is better than their starting catcher.

Cervelli is young, a defensive phenom, and he has no problem putting everyone on notice about it…and theres not a single thing wrong with that.

…BTW, feel free to comment to Cecilio’s Scribe.

……BTW again, Cecelio fancies the blog as “A sports blog for those who remember the days when it was OK to throw inside, hit the quarterback and trash talk a bit” …and yet celebrating is going too far?

Week 11 in review: Roy Halladay remembers why he left our division

So the Yankees played the Phillies last week, and Halladay gets a rude reminder of the division he left behind. The man comes and dominates the National League, including a perfect game…and he still CANT beat the Yankees.

Meanwhile, we pulled a draw for the subway series 2010.
…..aaaaaaaaaand we’re in 1st place, by the way…while the Red Sox finally showed up to the AL east party. Now 3s a crowd, but the Blue Jays arent exactly out the door yet.

….and that makes the Orioles the 5th wheel…and with the unbalanced schedule, its gonna be a much looooooooonger year in Baltimore.

Biggest Yankee Game
6/15/10: Yankees-8, Phillies-3
Yeah Halladay’s spanking definatly qualifies for a big win.

Anyway, Lady Gaga went to a Yankees game and visited the clubhouse after the game. The biggest issue Yankees managment had with all this? The Yankees lost that day, and apparently you arent allowed in the clubhouse after a loss.

Fantasy
The bad news right now is the Yankees are currently getting killed by Arizona…the good news is Mark Reynolds is starting on my fantasy team.
And I started Tex against my better judgment when he hit the slam against Santana.

Week 5 in review: Don’t Phaze me, bro!

Lets get the obvious done…

Dallas Braden. The blood still not dried from when he PMSed over what ARod did to his mound, he took to the hill again with a mission. That mission: Make sure no one else walks across his mound.

Well Braden made sure no one would go near his mound yesterday. Hell, he made sure no one would even go near 1st base as he retired all 27 Rays hitters he faced. This is the 2nd strait year those Death Rays tasted the wrong end of perfection.
I dont have a lot to say about the man now, I figure actual Athletics fans can do that. I do however, have something to say about the mans grandmother: Go f*ck yourself. Unless Im mistaken, after the perfect game, she said “Stick it, ARod” as if this was some sort of revenge…oh yeah, pitching a perfect game against someone not named the Yankees-an AL east team no less-yeah, thats perfect revenge for a man who broke an obscure, irrelevent rule…pass…
Like theres even a rivalry there. Braden is still a clown with just a handful of wins to his name, hes just now got a shiny one in there.
Lemme just check the ring count…ARod 1, Braden 0…Awards count?…Braden 0, ARod >0

Either way, just to recap:

Dallas Braden-Congrats
Dallas Bradens Grandmother- Shut up

As for the Yankees last week, they were near perfect, sweeping Baltimore and taking 2/3 from the Red Sox, who I believe are ready to admit that theres a problem with the entire team.

Biggest Yankee Game
5/7/10 Yankees-10, Red Sox-3
Hughes continues kicking butt, Beckett continues giving up bombs to the Yankees. I believe this game officially killed all the hype surrounding the rivalry for a while. Until the Red Sox get their act together, I cant imagine these matchups being interesting…

taze.jpgAh man, getting tazed at a Philly game, thats classic.
I assume this is Bud Seligs way of trying to speed up the games for 2 reasons…1-Tazing subdues the people faster, thus the game can continue sooner…2-Youll think twice about delaying a game if you know security is packing tazers.
I sure hope thats spilled beer on his pants though…

Fantasy
Either my teams did real good, or they took a beating. No middle ground this week.

The F*cking Lozers jumped to within a half game of 1st, just like the Yankees, with yet another 7-4 win.
The Pretenders are now tied for 1st thanks to Teixeira’s yearly May surge.

The other 3 teams all took beatings. I’d rather not get into it.

Quick question: are there any fantasy GMs out there who not only had Dallas Braden on roster yesterday, but happened to start him as well? Any A’s pitcher for that matter?

This Week
Yankees play 4 in Detroit then head home to play the Twins, who are praying to God Joe Mauer will be 100% by then, or else itll be a sweep for the Yanks.

Week 4 in review: God hates the Indians

Yankees are back on track, taking 2 of 3 from both the Orioles and White Sox. The Red Sox meanwhile just got swept by the Os and while the Rays are still on top, its only a matter of time before the Yankees take whats theirs. Besides, the standing dont truely start to matter until June anyway…

Now that April is officially in the rearview, its time to address players slumps. No more spring rust. If you’re sucking now, theres no excuse.

Nick Johnson, Javy Vazquez? Spotlights on you two. Randy winn as well, but as a bench player its not as vital.

With Marcus Thames hitting well and Brett Gardner not needing anyone to face lefties instead of him, Johnsons opprotunities are starting to dry up. Gardner and Nick Swisher both could prove excellent replacments in the #2 spot in the lineup.
Johnsons struggles could easity be explained by an apparent injury he was suffering, plus he knocked in a couple hits and RBIs in yesterdays thrashing of the White Sox, so maybe hes on the upward climb.

Vazquez though?
There is no explanation in existence to show why he suck all of a sudden except one. Its the same explanation as to why Roy Halladay is making the NL his b*tch.
The National League blows. If you were a dominating pitcher in the NL, you’ll only be a mear human in the AL.
Vazquez was borderline great in the NL, which transitions into borderline crap here in the AL. He has yet to have a good start this year and theres nothing physically wrong with him, so whats his issue? Its Girardis call as to how soon Vazquez will get the hook, unless he rights himself by mid May, theres no reason to keep him in the rotation. Sergio Mitre should be the #4 starter. As it is we only use him in long relief for when Vazquez self detonates. Thanks to him we actually stood a chance the last time Vazquez pitched.

Biggest Yankee Game
4/29/10 Yankees-4, Orioles-0
AJ Burnett took no prisoners in 8 shutout innings and Cano continues his domination over Baltimore by launching 2 homers. Hill and Pedroia can eat their hearts out, Robinson Cano is by far the best 2nd baseman in the division, if not the entire league.

indians.jpgActually, Indians fans, yes we can hate you that much. Especially if you hate yourselves most of the time.
Recently the top 10 most hated teams in the MLB came out. The Yankees (always a fan favorite to hate) placed only 5th. Turns out theres more overall hate for the Astros and Reds. The Red Sox placed 2nd, which Ive yet to stop laughing over…
But there is no more hated team than the Cleveland Indians….my brother in law is a fan of them, which makes me happy as well.
And I can only assume the picture is related to the 2007 ALDS. Big whoop, you lost in the ALCS…classy…
God himself would hate the Indians if you asked him…

Fantasy
After trailing 10-0 for most of last week, my F*cking Lozers team pulled a massive turnaround and won 7-4 and are now 1.5 games out of 1st. Injuries have been kicking my *** still but Ive been making some nice pick ups as a result, including the streaking Alex Gonzalez, and CJ Wilson.

The Pretenders are holding steady, under 10 points of 1st. Marlon Byrd has been an indredible pickup there. Now that its May I can start Teixeira without worry. It doesnt hurt to have Halladay or Santana either…

cpDOOM 2.0 (3-1) won a close one against a former perfect team and are now tied for 1st. This week they face the other team involved in the current 3 way tie. With the Rockies Catcher situation all figured out, I can now start Olivo without worry.

The Showdown (1-3) got beat again, as all of us owners are trying to figure out how to fix it. It seems the more owners there are, the more indecision there is. We voted and we’re actually gonna try starting David Ortiz, which I think is a bad idea, but we’ve got no better options right now. ARods little slump doesnt help things either, but he always does great after Girardi benches him for a game.

The Roid Sox (3-1) just competed some utter domination last week, and are all set to face another weak team this week. My “all power” lineup seems to have hit a snag seeing as how Clint Barmes sucks and theres no such thing as a power hitter on the waiver wire. Eric Young Jr is on a streak right now, so I picked him up for the time being, despite how wierd his 0 home runs looks in my lineup of 2-6 home run hitters…

This week
Yankees play the Orioles again this week, with Sabathia and Burnett looking to give encore performances, while Pettitte will face them for the first time since his near perfect game last year. Afterwards, we’ll face the dying Red Sox…with Vazquez pitching in the 1st game…

As the president weeps…

Not even a week removed from their visit to the White House, the Yankees had to deal with the White Sox…the alleged favorite team of the president himself. And what better way to follow the pro-White Sox speech the prez gave at the Yankee championship visit than by beating the Chisox…but not just beat them, spot them 3-0 and 4-2 leads before beating them 6-4.

And how did we beat them? An offensive charge led by our own president, Derek Jeter

Jeter.jpg…a gritty start by our own speaker of the house, Andy Pettitte

Pettitte.jpg…and the door slammed closed by our own vice-president, Mariano Rivera.

Mo.jpgYeah, any doubts over if we would win that game?

Todays game will be a bit more of an adventure, with Sec of Agriculture, Javy Vazquez on the hill. Our forgien diplomat (Girardi) better start the A lineup, because we’re gonna need every run we can get.

Onto todays game…

Fire up the bomb shelters, Vazquez is pitching!

…Jorge chases a foul ball, tosses his mask away and nails the umpire with it….if we dont get any close calls after this, you’ll know why…

……..and to the complete shock of everyone, Vazquez surrenders a homerun. 1-0 Chicago.

Vazquez must like an ERA of 9.00, cuz he gave up another run this inning…

Any chance we can put Vazquez on the DL for “depression” or somethin?

Middle 2 in Philadelphia
Anyone else notice how much more relaxed Joe Buck sounds when he does a non-Yankee game? Its like there less pain since nop ones twisting his arm to announce his most hated team…

Bottom 7 in New York
Yankees took the lead….Yankees lost the lead. Why? Girardi went to the bullpens version of Vazquez: Robertson. Can someone tell me why Mitre couldnt go beyond 3 innings?

Bottom 4 in Philadelphia
Oh the Mets…gotta love ya. 2 dropped pop liners. Phillies lead 1-0.

Game Over in New York
Why did Mitre leave after 3 shutdown innings of work? The man did come up as a starter, so dont feed me any BS about being tired…instead he left and the mop up reliever comes in and blows our lead…Mitre better be hurt…

I need to end on a good note…
Bottom 7 in Philadelphia
8-0 Phillies over Mets?
Heh, allllllllright…

We get it Obama, youre a White Sox fan…or are you?

Jesus f’n Christ. Its like he still trying to prove to the world that he was born in America or something. The Yankees went to visit the white house the other day, a tradition of every championship team to have the required presidential visit. For some it was an unforgetable expierience…
…for Obama? Hes a little disappointed that they werent the Chicago White Sox.

For those who are uninformed, the President has gone out of his way sometimes to show how hes a fan of the White Sox. He wore their cap during his opening day 1st pitch in DC in which no Chicago team was present…more recently, he mentioned the White Sox as often as the Yankees during his speech about the 2009 Yankee championship. Hell, he even brought up 2005 as the last White Sox win as if he needed to remind himself that the Chisox werent always bad…

There were some Yankees he pointed out: Jeter, Posada, Girardi, Rivera and Tex
And there were some high profile snubs: ARod, Sabathia, Pettitte, Burnett, Cano, Damon and Matsui (They werent there, but STILL)

Obama’s got about 2 or 3 more chances to meet baseball champions, and there are some loooooooong odds that he “beloved” White Sox will do it.
Although I doubt hes serious…

LETS PLAY A GAME!

Put 30 seconds on the clock and grab a piece of paper.

Name as many White Sox players past/current as you can.

Ready? GO!

………..

……..
……………..
……..

TIME!

How’d you do?
Could you name at least 1? Cuz Obama can’t.

Seriously, Obama couldnt name a single White Sox player…not one…zero.

For a self proclaimed White Sox fan, Obama sure dropped the ball on that….wonder what else hes lying about.

Opening day 2010

Here we go! No more waiting. No more listening to how people think the Rays can overcomes the east, Twins can overcome their closer shortage or how the Mets can overcome 3rd place. Time to put your money where your mouth is. Time for the Royals to start 6-1 and give everyone false hope again, time for Ortiz to inject those last minute steroids or for Manny to take his birth control this time. Time for me to be myself again and offend and argue with idiots/Yankee Haters only this time Ive got a bit of arrogance with me….but more importantly…

Time for the 2010 Defending World Champion New York Yankees to do their thing and bring home #28!

We’ve got 17 more than the next team down the line and we’re all geared up to up the ante again. Tonight we open up in Boston, where theyve been cursing our names more than anywhere else these last 4 months.

On the mound for the 2010 Defending World Champion Yankees is future AL Cy Yong winner C.C. Sabathia…facing him is the cannon fodder known as Josh Beckett.

Yankees have got 20HR potential from 1-8 in their lineup, while Boston might get 20HR combined from their 6-9 hitters. Is the division really up for grabs? I dont see the Yankees having any trouble winning the east this year. We’ve got 3 MVP canidates in our lineup, One of the best leadoff hitters in recent years batting 7th for us, THE best leadoff hitter batting 1st and the only power outage in our lineup instead will steal bases with the best of them.

Anyway, on fantasy watch tonight:
Derek Jeter (Pretenders)
Mark Teixeira (Pretenders)
Nick Johnson (F**king Lozers)
My other leagues dont start for another day

Lets get it ON!

Pregame in Boston
The most notorious cannon fodder againt the Yankees in the history of Boston, Pedro Martinez, has come out to throw out the 1st pitch….to washed up catcher Jason Varitek.
You may all remember him from last falls world series as the guy the Yankees beat to clinch.

Top 1 in Boston
Johnson hits one pretty deep…just shy of the wall though. Tryin to make an impact?

End of 1 in Boston
1-2-3…1-2-3…the most boring thing that a blogger can write about….though Pedroia looking stupid as he struck out on that high heat from CC was entertaining…

Top 2 in Boston
Jorgeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Posaaaaaaaaaaadaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! 1st homer in baseball for 2010! 1-0 Yankees!
Welcome to the Yankees Curtis Granderson! back-to-back! 2-0 Yankees!

John Sterling had a chance to unveil his Granderson home run call….pray for the c hildren…here it is:
“Curtis, youre something Grand-erson!”
That sounds even worse than his Teix-message bit…

Top 4 in Boston
Gardner and Jeter, back to back RBI singles! 4-1 Yankees!
Jeters RBI single give me my 1st fantasy points of the year!

…Did I not say “cannon fodder” before in reference to Beckett?

5-1 Yankees on a double steal. Gardner steals home!

Top 5 in Boston
So Beckett cant even go 5 innings. Great start to our 2010!
