Fantasy 2011…pt 3

cpDOOM! 3.0 is drafting this time around.

Almost forgot about this draft…almost. But I never forget to draft. I forget to watch some shows…miss a game…miss a date, job interviews and some classes…but I never, never miss a draft.

Pick 10th overall. MLB.com fantasy league this time around mo fos, so Im thinkin I want the Phillies pitching staff 1st chance I can within reason…

New Rule, please? If you draft #1, and you dont show up for the draft, your autodraft picks you player ranked #101 instead of #1 as punishment.

Pick 1: Evan Longoria…never fails me

Couple people picked the Phillies and Giants pitching 6 and 7th overall…seriously?
…once upon a time that wouldve made sense. The scoring was so obviously broken back in the mid-2000s that a solid pitching staff would score all the points you need to blow out the other guy, mainly because it was unforgiving for when a team did anything but pitch shutouts. Win the game but give up 4 runs? You might break even. Give up 4 runs and lose? Then youre looking at a -23 score. Its gotten way better since, making fantasy baseball here so much more fun.

Pick 2: Carlos Gonzalez
Pick 3: Nelson Cruz
Pick 4: LA Dodgers pitching

Guess talking about the pitching in this game made me want something reliable now. My MO tends to be that I draft pitching much later and go after the staff poised to have a turnaround season. The 2008 Rays are an example of that.

Pick 5: Brandon Phillips
Pick 6: Paul Konerko
Pick 7: Stephen Drew
Pick 8: Nick Markakis

FYI: Im trying to avoid drafting the same player twice. So the idea is to draft players who I didnt draft in the other 2 drafts from earlier…

Really need a Catcher…

Pick 9: Kurt Suzuki
Pick 10: Grady Sizemore
Pick 11: Angel Pagan
Pick 12: Russell Martin

I hear a voice in the back of my head saying “Really? Martin?” But I keep telling myself hes just the backup catcher here…

Pick 13: Chase Headley

Gettin in those late rounds. Always a blast. Always look to find that late pick gem to round out the roster…or Ryan Theriot…

Pick 14: Ryan Theriot

I’m gonna throw a fit if Ike Davis has a big year cuz I keep putting him off in the drafts and someone else grabs him juuuuuuust before me…

Pick 15: James Loney
Pick 16: Baltimore Orioles pitching

And the Os are my pick to have a turnaround run….playing backup to the Dodgers…

Aight, no more of this unique picks only drafting…One more draft comming…

Fantasy 2011…pt 2

Its all part of a plan…and I’ll let you all know what that plan is when I think of it. ‘nother fantasy draft tonight.

#2 of what Im expecting to be 4 fantasy teams….dont give me that look…I dont have a problem…right?

Last nights draft was for a strait faced team, this time around I’m avoid all those picks and see how well this team can do. Aight, heres the results…..I drafted last, giving me all back-to-back picks, but a loooooooooong wait in between…

8-Alexi Ramirez
9-Pablo Sandoval

22-Mike Aviles
23-Magglio Ordonez

Fantasy 2011

Here we go again, baby! Time to draft me some fantasy champions!

Unlike last year, there will be no group run team. Too messy and we finished near the bottom. My solo teams ran much better (3 of 4 playoff berths, 2 league titles)

In-draft commenting will happen, once my draft goes live….

2nd in draft order!
I wont get contract-year-Pujols, which is unfortunate, but Im guarenteed to get Hanley Ramirez. In my drafts, good middle infielders are hard to come by, so I can work with this.

…1st, pick, Hanley
…2nd? ARod
3rd? Tim Lincecum

Not bad so far…

round 4: Buster Posey
rounds 5: Dan Uggla

How bout some pitching domination? rounds 6 and 7: David Price and Josh Johnson
8 and 9: Alex Rios and Brian Wilson
10/11: Oswalt and Victorino
…crap, Corey Harts still on the table? Crap…
…and right before I can snatch him up, someone autodraft gets him…figures…
12/13: Delmon Young and Colby Rasmus…
14 and 15 are…Huff and Gardner
16-21: Aardsma, Dempster, Guerrero, Romero, Neil Walker, Cuddyer and John Axford.

Not bad considering I didnt prep. Awesome infield, speed minded outfield and an awesome rotation.

Week 26 in review: The Mets should make me their next GM or manager, seeing how I was able to lead 2 different fantasy teams to victory.

So…….regular season is over, 22 teams are going home and the Yankees are in the playoffs. No big shock there…

The Rays won the east….yeah, enjoy that-have fun losing to Cliff Lee while the Yankees waltz through Minnesota. Anyway, Ill predict the results tomorrow or something. Lets get onto something much more interesting…like…

I won 2 of my fantasy leagues. Not 1, but TWO!
The Roid Sox held off a late rally to clinch while cpDOOM! 2.0 destroyed their opponent to claim the title. I’m already thinking about next year, where cpDOOM! 3.0 will be claiming a title.

Anyway…

Biggest Yankee Game:
9/28/10: Yankees-6, Blue Jays-1
Playoff clincher and Sabathia proving yet again that he should be Cy Young.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/The-Twins-have-a-problem-with-the-Timberwolves-m?urn=mlb-273996

The story here is that the Twins, like most teams, have about a million ads all throughout their field…and theyve got a problem with the NBAs Minnesota Timberwolves’ ad that can be seen. Instead of a picture, Im just gonna let y’all read the article, which includes 2 images…so that this week I can avoid violating copyright laws…

Fantasy:
I dont know if you heard, but I won 2 Fantasy titles.

For the sake of comparison:
cpDOOM! 2.0 opening day……..finals
C: M. Montero…………………….R. Doumit
1B: Sandoval………………………D. Lee
2B: Roberts………………………..J. Keppinger
3B: Blake…………………………..J. Bautista
SS: Bartlett………………………..T. Tulowitzki
OF: Braun………………………….R. Braun
OF: Crawford………………………C. Crawford
OF: Swisher……………………….N. Swisher
U: Upton……………………………B. Upton
P: Atlanta Braves………………..San Diego Padres

on bench for the finals were Montero and the Braves. (Like I said in my previous post, the Padres are damn good against the giant for some reason)

Roid Sox opening day…………..finals
C: M. Napoli………………………J. Buck
1B: M. Cabrera…………………..M. Cabrera
2B: B. Phillips……………………M. Aviles
3B: C. Davis………………………J. Bautista
SS: C. Barmes…………………..S. Drew
OF: C. Quentin…………………..L. Morrison
OF: N. Swisher…………………..N. Swisher
OF: A. Lind……………………….R. Raburn
U: J. Morneau…………………….T. Wigginton
P: San Francisco Giants……..San Francisco Giants

Phillips and Lind were on bench for the finals. The other guy started the Red sox pitching, so I knew I was safe pitching the Giants.

It was no coincidence that both teams featured Jose Bautista. Unbelieveable now, but he went undrafted in both those leagues. Picking him up proved to be the clincher, though at the time I thought he might prove to be a decent bench player.

This Week:
The 27 time defending world champion New York Yankees will continue their title defense as they face off against the Twins in the American League Division Series.

…yes, the same Twins we swept last year in the ALDS.
…actually no, not the same Twins because they dont have Morneau and Mauer sucks this year so theyre actually worse than last year.

Week 25 in review: Literal walk off; Cano for MVP

So yeah, one of the biggest games of the year and the Yankees win it in walk off fashion as Juan Miranda draws the bases loaded walk. Much love to ARod with the big 2 run jack earlier in the game and Cano for the cluth game tying hit in the bottom of the 9th.

The Red Sox are done, see you b!tches next year.

MEANWHILE!

So, the AL MVP is apparently down to 3 men: Miguel Cabrera, Josh Hamilton and Robbie Cano.

Now…Hamilton hasnt been playing this month (ya know, the most important month of the regular season) so despite his numbers, NO.

Miguel Cabrera has sucked this month, and his team is out, so Miguel should be out as well.

Cano has the good numbers, stepped up big when ARod was hurt last month and is leading the Yankees to the playoffs.

Fantasy:
2 teams in the finals:

cpDOOM! 2.0
They explode and raped the opposition last week, outscoring all playoff teams.
In the finals vs the team that won the division this year, but cpDOOM! 2.0 was the highest scoring team over the entire season.
Best record vs Highest scoring team.

The Roid Sox
They ran away with the semi-final matchup.
In the finals vs the other division winner.

This Week:
Season ends this week. Magic number for playoffs is 1.
@ Blue Jays, then @ Red Sox.

Week 23 in review: Not as advertised

Yeah yeah yeah…Yankees and Rangers was billed as a playoff preview, but the Yankees didnt treat it as such. If this were the playoffs, the Yanks wouldntve sent out that trio of poor pitchers and nobodies. That series featured no Sabathia, no Pettitte and only a bullpen appearence (0 runs allowed) of Hughes.

So let the Rangers celebrate, the Yankees will be a wet towel on their parade come October.

Biggest Yankee Game:
9/8/10: Yankees-3, Orioles-2
Not much to say as it was the lone Yankee win last week. Much thanks to Swisher for winning this for us in walk off fashion.

Favorite Picture:

Yeah. This was handed out in Milwaukee. Brewers suck. Cubs suck. Its all fun.

Fantasy:
The F*cking Lozers f*cking lost. I guess it was their destiny or something. Didnt help that the other guy had Joey Votto or that Juan Pierre and Brett Gardner decided to stop stealing bases.

Anyway…

F*cking Lozers: Final week. 3rd place battle.

Showdown: (8-15) 5th in division.
-Eliminated from playoffs.

Pretenders: (68 pts) 6th in division. 31pts back of 1st, 1.5pts back of 5th, 10.5pts up on 7th.

cpDOOM! 2.0: (15-8) 2nd in division. 2 games back of 1st, 2 games up on 3rd.
-Eliminated for division, Currently holding the 3 seed for playoffs in final week of regular season

Roid Sox: (13-10) 1st in division. 1 game up on 2nd.

This Week:
Rays and Orioles…and Andy Pettittes comming back.
-a win gets me in the playoffs. A loss wont kill me, but then Id need a lot of help.

Week 22 in review: Good-bye, Boston

How far back are they? 10 games? Can they really win 10 more games than the Yankees this month? No, no they cant. But once again they face the Rays in a series, meaning either they win and climb closer in the standings, or the Rays win and continue to breathe down out encks so Im not sure who to root for.

Biggest Yankee Game:
9/2/10: Yankees-5, Athletics-0
C. Cy Sabathia was just nasty, making the A’s his own and becomming the 1st pitcher in baseball to 19 wins. Cy Young anyone?

Favorite Picture:

BOOM.pngNyjer Morgan had ideas about starting a fist fight, Gabby Sanchez had other ideas. BAM! Clothsline! Morgan on his rear!

Fantasy:
Showdown: (8-14) 5th in division. 8 games back of 1st, 3 games back of 4th, 1 game up on last.
-Eliminated from playoffs.
…and the great multi-owner experiment fails miserably.

Pretenders: (69 pts) 6th in division. 28pts back of 1st, 3pts back of 5th, 8pts up on 7th.

cpDOOM! 2.0: (14-8) 2nd in division. 3 games back of 1st, 2 games up on 3rd.
-Eliminated for division, Currently holding the 3 seed for playoffs, very close to clinching.

Roid Sox: (12-10) t-1st in division. 1 game up on 3rd.
-Currently in playoff picture, but need to win this week to keep in there.

F*cking Lozers:
Semi-finals: (2) F*cking Lozers vs the 6 seed.
I’m hoping to ride the hot streaks of Marcus Thames and Wandy Rodriguez and hoping Tim Lincecums last start is the sign that hes finally returning to his former glory.
The other guy pulled off a 8-5 upset over the 3 seed and has an equally impressive lineup that includes Joey Votto and Sabathia.
The only lock of a statistic is stolen bases in my favor what with Juan Pierre, Michael Bourn and Brett Gardner patroling my outfield.
Will I finally advance to the finals this year, or will it be 3 strait years of semi-failure?

Next Week:
Baltimore and Texas. Theres no reason for us to not be in 1st after playing these two…

Week 21 in review: Damn copy-cats and Fantasy playoffs

So whatever the Yankees do, the Rays feel they need to do as well. For the last week, the Yankees and Rays have remained tied on top of the AL (b)east with the Rays and Yankees both winning at the same time. The only good from this is that Boston is slowing slipping farther and farther behind in the standings. Very very nice.

Elsewhere, my fantasy seasons are comming to a close, if not already in the playoffs. Ill get to that later.

Biggest Yankee Game:
8/28/10-8/30/10, All Yankee wins, All games in which Marcus Thames has gone deep.
Seriously, Marcus Thames is pulling off some serious power all of a sudden. He’s almost doubled his homerun total over the last few days. Insane.

Favorite Picture:

manny ejection.jpgManny can’t help but get tossed from wherever he is. This, his final Dodger game no less.

Fantasy:

Showdown: (8-13) 5th in division. 8 games back of 1st, 3 games back of 4th, 1 game up on last.
-Eliminated from division. Need miracle to make playoffs.
-Strasburg is out….with him goes my only trump card…

Pretenders: (69.5 pts) 6th in division. 26.5pts back of 1st, 2.5pts back of 4th, 10.5pts up on 7th.

cpDOOM! 2.0: (13-8) 2nd in division. 3 games back of 1st, 1 game up on 3rd.
-Elimination looming for division, Currently holding the 3 seed for playoffs.

F*cking Lozers: (136-112-25) 2nd in league. Made up exactly 6.5 games needed to overtake 2nd before regular season ended.
-Regular season over. In possession of 2 seed, meaning I get the bye week for round 1!!!
See you next week for the semis!

Roid Sox: (12-9) t-1st in division. 1 game up on 3rd.
-Currently in playoffs by only 5 points.

This Week:
Oakland and Toronto at home. 5 wins at least?

Week 19/20 in review: On the enemys turf

So yeah, last week I went on a trip to Maine which, to my complete non shock-the Red Sox are very big there. And yet I proudly marched around every rest stop in New England with my “27 time World Champions New York Yankees” shirt and a Yankee hat. Many unhappy fans gave me looks, a gas station attendent didnt even look me in the eye, and I think I made a little kid cry. So it was all good. I had no interent and I didnt really follow baseball last week, so yeah…

Biggest Yankee Game:
8/11/10: Yankees-7, Rangers-6
How the Yankees won when 17 of them struck out is beyond me, but I’m not complaining. Guess Cliff Lee just wishes he was still in Philly.

Favorite Picture:

shirt.jpgThis was the shirt I wore all through New England. Needless to say, theyre happy Im back in NY.

Fantasy:
F*cking Lozers are going to the playoffs, baby!!!

Showdown: (8-12) 5th in division. 7 games back of 1st, 2 games back of 4th, 2 games up on last.
-Eliminated from division. Not lookin too good for playoffs.

Pretenders: (77.5 pts) 3rd in division. 19pts back of 1st, 14pts back of 2nd, 2,5pts up on 4th.

cpDOOM! 2.0: (12-8) 2nd in division. 3 games back of 1st, 1 game up on 3rd.
-Currently holding the last playoff slot by 10 points.

F*cking Lozers: (127-110-23) 3rd in league. 16 games back of 1st, 6.5 games back of 2nd.
-Clinched playoff spot. Currently holding the 3 seed.

Roid Sox: (12-8) t-1st in division. 2 games up on 3rd.
-Currently holding 3 seed. Currently trailing 1 seed by 17 points.

This Week:
Road trip! Toronto and Chicago!

Week 18 in review: Wake me in September

So 3 of 4 games are done with the Yankee/Red Sox series and I find myself a little indifferent. The inital panic from the beginning of the month has past by. The Yankees are once again taking it to the Red Sox like they own them and Tampa Bay has cooled off and are reverting to their old ways: being the no-hit whipping boys they are.

But its only August. Theres still a whole freakin month before things get really tight. To invest yourself entirely right now would be foolish because Tampa Bay and Boston arent gonna just fade away. Come back fresh in September and Ill guarentee you that the Rays will be between 2-5 games behind the Yankees while the BoSox will be between 3-7 games back of Tampa Bay for the Wild Card.

Biggest Yankee Game:
8/7/10: Yankees-5, Red Sox-2
A-Rod out? No problem! Sabathia outpitching anyone is a no-brainer. Just as Boston thinks they can climb back into the AL east race, the Yankees smack them back down.

Favorite Picture:
stras.jpgI mentioned before that when the Syracuse Chiefs had Strasburg, they enjoyed packed houses and wins. Now that he left, the packed houses have been anything but common. So how do they cash in on the player they no longer have? How about selling his socks to the highest bidder?

Syracuse, NY…we’re not exactly proud…

Fantasy:

Showdown: (8-10) 5th place in division. 6 games out of 1st, 1 game back of 4th, 2 games up on last place.
-If the season ended today-no playoff berth.

Pretenders: (70pts) 5th place in division. 26.5 points out of 1st, 2 points back of 4th, 3.5 points up on 6th.
-I dont think this league does playoffs.

cpDOOM! 2.0: (10-8) 2nd place. 3 games out of 1st, 1 game up on 3rd.
-If the season ended today-no playoff berth.
Currently 52 points behind last playoff seeded team.

F*cking Lozers: (112-101-21) 3rd in division. 5 games out of 2nd. 2 games up on 4th.
-If the season ended today-Currently sitting on the 3 seed.

The Roid Sox: (11-7) tied-1st in division. 1 game up on 3rd.
-If season ended today-Currently sitting on the 3 seed, 23 points back of the 1 seed.

This Week:
One more against Boston, then we head out to Texas and Kansas City. Potential playoff matchup in Texas, cant wait.
